MAKING UP STORIES

Every kind of writing I can think of revolves around telling a story. Whether it turns out to be an epic saga or a poetic grocery list, the story is the thing. And whether anyone finds it interesting to read, or hear, depends on the telling - how the tale is woven, how it unfolds, how each new piece of information comes into view at just the proper time.

Over the years I've grown fond of a few writers who seem to tell stories well - you may have seen some notes about that elsewhere in this blog. But as the saying goes, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I've given it a try. And as a bonus, a friend also allowed me to post a well-told story that you might find interesting as well. Of course, the best stories come from real life - you can't make this stuff up.

So here they are - links to two short tales from the recent and not so recent past. I hope you'll find them well told.
